As Real Madrid prepare for Zinedine Zidane’s departure at the end of this season, they’re already considering other options.
Zidane has already quit the Madrid job once before, in 2018. Now, again, after locker room gossip pushing for an exit, Zidane remains ambiguous about his own future as head coach.
“There are moments when you have to stay, and others when you have to go,” he said cryptically, in a news conference on Saturday.
So, the French coach has persistently refused to confirm whether he’ll see out his contract, which runs until 2022.
Besides being uncertain about his future, Zidane may also have told his players that he might not continue as coach. But this is likely a hoax.
Still, with several Real players and Zidane himself hinting toward an early exit, Real Madrid prepare for Zinedine Zidane’s departure.
Zidane’s Potential Replacement
In case Zinedine Zidane leaves as the club head coach, Real Madrid already have two replacement candidates for the position.
According to As, the Madrid club’s management are choosing between former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and Castilla’s Raul.
The Italian is a favourite because he’s the alternative hire with the most experience at a high level.
Indeed, he last led Juventus as head coach before Maurizio Sarri replaced him in 2019. Funnily, both former coaches of Turin are still on Juve’s pay roll.
Real Madrid also have an eye on club legend Raul, on the other hand, as a backup.
However, at the moment, all talks about the future and a possible change of coach are on hold until the end of the season.
