BREAKING – Toni Kroos, a Real Madrid midfielder, is COVID-positive.
Real Madrid have just confirmed, two hours ago, on their official website that Kroos has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Real statement reads: “Real Madrid announces that our player Toni Kroos has given a positive result in the COVID-19 test carried out today.”
It goes on to say: “Kroos has been in isolation since last Friday, May 14, having been in direct contact with a person who had tested positive for COVID-19.”
After the Madrid club confirmed Kroos as a near contact to a positive person, the midfielder has initiated isolation.
Following immediate self-isolation since Friday, Kroos screened positive for the virus when his report arrived on Monday.
His isolation since Friday now explains his absence from their 0-1 win over Athletic Club.
Before him, Raphael Varane and Real’s captain himself, Sergio Ramos, both caught and recovered from the virus. Each, however, also missed two weeks of play at Real Madrid, and may miss more on account of isolation.
Now, Kroos will also stand to miss two weeks’ Real Madrid action. So, Kroos will miss the last game of the season because the Real Madrid midfielder is COVID-positive.
This last bout is between Real Madrid and Villarreal, their last La Liga game of the season, on Saturday.
