Ramos – Deaths and Infections Continue to Rise in India

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has expressed his concern regarding the increasingly worsening COVID-19 situation in India. Captain of the Real Madrid first-team, says Ramos- ‘deaths and infections continue to rise in India’.

India is experiencing the surge of a tragically perilous second wave of community transmission for coronavirus in recent weeks.

On Thursday, the country recorded around 386,000 cases and 3498 deaths. Crematoriums in Delhi, and other Indian cities, are seeing a surplus of bodies to cremate.

They prepare for around 1000 cremations each day. A cremation worker in Delhi revealed that before this second wave, he used to cremate 3-5 bodies each day. Now, in the thick of the second surge of the new strain, he alone cremates around 15 dead bodies.

Ramos Tweets Concern for India

Sergio Ramos has expressed deepening concern over the dire COVID situation in India.

On Friday, the Spain international footballer shared a link to the UNICEF website on his official Twitter.

The UNICEF link urges people to donate to help with the pandemic emergency in India, especially to counter the rise in the death rates of children under five:

Per Ramos, “deaths and infections continue to rise in India”.

The Blancos defender, who is recovering from a calf injury, also tweeted:

Ramos’ Brush with the Virus

The Real Madrid captain himself tested positive two weeks ago.

So, he spent 10 days in quarantine, isolating at home, as per the appropriate COVID protocol.

Ramos didn’t play in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool. After contracting coronavirus, he couldn’t play the second leg as well. Real advanced to the semi-finals without it, therefore.

For this reason, the captain also missed Madrid’s ensuing first-leg semi-final clash against Chelsea earlier this week, which ended 1-1.

Now however, with his quarantine period over, he may feature in the second leg.
