Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino has attracted the interest of Real Madrid. After Zinedine Zidane confirmed his exit, Pochettino is Real Madrid’s top target to become their new head coach.
The Madrid club have made the 49-year-old Argentine their prime target to become manager, following Zidane’s departure, reports Goal.
Real had alternatively thought about appointing Massimiliano Allegri, but Juventus have all but signed their former coach before Real could.
The royal club also have former Inter coach Antonio Conte and ex-Real Madrid forward Raul on their shortlist.
However, because Conte’s future plans are dubious and Raul insists on continuing with Real Madrid Castilla, Pochettino tops their list.
Mauricio has previously expressed a desire to work at Real Madrid and nothing can have changed on that front.
However, convincing PSG to sell Pochettino within less than a year of firing Thomas Tuchel before him, will be difficult.
The coach currently has a deal with the Parisians and will have to pay compensation to PSG to break it.
Pochettino is Real Madrid’s Top Target
Nonetheless, Real Madrid will meet with the PSG men to discuss the matter.
One factor encouraging their plans is Pochettino facing the same insurmountable problems at PSG that Tuchel did prior to him.
Further, Madrid understand they are not the only ones interested in Pochettino.
Tottenham are also thinking of appointing him. Many at Tottenham wish for Pochettino, who led the team from 2014 to 2019, to return.
Spurs president Daniel Levy also wants the fan favourite to return, after firing Jose Mourinho, who was his replacement originally.
