Pochettino: Bayern’s True Strength Is the Team

PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino has responded to a question about an injury to Bayern forward Robert Lewandowski. Per Pochettino, ‘Bayern’s true strength is the team’, and not just the forward.

Pochettino told Le Parisien about the balance of power in the Champions League quarter-final pairing:

“I have a good example. In 2019, when Tottenham played Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals, Harry Kane was injured in the first half of the first game.

We spent almost an hour of the first game and the whole second game without him. And he was our main striker, like Lewandowski at Bayern. And we went on,”

Lewandowski has played 25 Bundesliga games and scored 35 goals this season.

The 32-year-old forward was injured while playing in a match for Poland in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

So, he will not feature in either of the Champions League quarter-finals against PSG.

“Bayern are not just Lewandowski, even though he is an incredible player,” the PSG coach said, however.

Indeed, per Pochettino, “Bayern’s true strength is the team. This club is very strong.”
