Usually taking a holiday after each season ends, superstar Lionel Messi will be on vacation for Barcelona’s final match, already.
The Barca striker and captain will not play in Barcelona’s final 2020-21 La Liga season match against Eibar on Saturday.
Due to Barcelona’s failure to win the trophy, Messi will begin his vacation before this season’s final match.
Barca wrap up their season against already-relegated Eibar on Saturday.
However, along with their relegated rivals, they too have nothing left to play for in the present season. After one win in their last five games, their hopes for a La Liga title extinguished.
So, Barcelona captain Messi has no reason to play yet another domestic match bearing no significance over their season.
Messi Will Be on Vacation for Barcelona’s Final Match
The club announced that their captain has been given permission to begin his vacation early. He wants some extra time off before beginning Argentina’s Copa America preparations.
In a possible attempt to win over the superstar to extend his contract, Barcelona have given him an early vacation.
However, no one can say that the Catalans captain does not deserve this early break.
In 2020-21, Messi has appeared in all but two of Barcelona’s league games, making net 47 appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, he has 30 goals in La Liga, seven more than his closest rival Gerard Moreno.
This season tally has put him in a strong position to win the Pichichi trophy. If he does win the trophy, it will be for the eighth time in his career.
Messi, 33, is out of contract in June, though, and he may not extend his 20-year stay at Camp Nou. (Though reports seem optimistic about a contract extension.)
Still, could last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Celta Vigo be his last match for the club?
