City transfer chief Txiki Begiristain is said to have led Manchester City’s interest in signing the versatile Sergi Roberto. He is backed by Pep Guardiola’s blessing.
According to a story in El Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City has even told Barcelona of their interest. However, the report also clarifies how any transfer would need to be a straight-forward money deal.
The name came up between the two clubs in informal trade talks between the two clubs. Both clubs are keen on reciprocal transfers, with full-backs Nelson Semedo and Joao Cancelo saying they could be involved in this summer’s swap deal.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Sergi Roberto is signed at Camp Nou, where he spent his entire professional career, until 2022, with his deal expected to reach a crucial point later this year.
He has made 274 first-team appearances for the Blaugrana and, despite being naturally a central midfielder, has frequently been deployed ahead of Semedo in recent seasons at the right-back.
With six La Liga championships, two Champions League titles and five Copa del Rey victories, Sergi Roberto has played a significant role in the squad.
