Klopp Says Liverpool Are Undeserving of Champions League

After a dramatic yet disappointing 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are undeserving of Champions League. The Liverpool head coach even argues that his team are not worthy of placing in the top-four of the Premier League.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Liverpool actually cinched the initial lead in the match on Saturday. In fact, Mohamed Salah set a record by scoring this goal. He set the record for Liverpool’s earliest goal since 2019 by scoring just 2 minutes and 59 seconds in!

So, the Reds could’ve won all three points, and restored themselves in the top four of the EPL table.

However, there came a dramatic twist late in the game. Joe Willock scored an equalizer when the match was at 90 + 5 minutes.

Thus, Liverpool and Newcastle tied 1-1 and each took away just one point.

Klopp Says Liverpool Are Undeserving of Champions League

Klopp was quizzed after the match on Liverpool’s bid to earn a ticket for European football’s top table in 2021-22.

And the German coach told BT Sport: “If you deserve, you deserve it.”

And, “I didn’t see us deserve it today playing Champions League next year.”

Klopp added on the draw despite the early (earliest) lead: “We scored a wonderful goal, didn’t finish the game off. Didn’t play enough.”

This is not the first time Klopp’s been brutally honest about his Liverpool squad. He said with humility that “if we don’t earn it, we don’t get it” when they lost to Real Madrid in CL. We appreciate his honesty in saying it like it is.
