Chelsea will welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge for the Premier League London derby on Wednesday. With the Blues looking to avenge their earlier loss to the Gunners, Chelsea vs Arsenal may already have a winner.
Following a 2-1 win over champions-elect Manchester City (adrift from all predictions), Thomas Tuchel’s hosts are all but assured of a top-four finish.
On the other hand, Arsenal hold slim European hopes for next season alive by beating West Bromwich Albion 3-1.
The Blues are third-placed on the table ahead of Wednesday’s match, though they could slip to fourth before then.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are in ninth place ahead of their short trip across the capital.
Thomas Tuchel will continue to rotate his side from Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
After all, he has one eye on this weekend’s FA Cup final with Leicester too.
Thiago Silva did not play against City, but he is unlikely to be included here too despite Andreas Christensen’s absence.
Jorginho, Mason Mount, and Ben Chilwell may all play for Arsenal’s visit in midweek, but only for the latter half.
Chelsea possible starting lineup: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Chilwell; Ziyech, Mount; Havertz
On Wednesday night, Tierney, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Martin Odegaard, and Thomas Partey could all start. They may return to the starting XI against London rivals Chelsea.
Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers, may either of them start, with both wanting the right-back spot in midweek.
Alexandre Lacazette, who has just recently returned from injury, may not be ready to play just yet.
Arsenal possible starting lineup: Leno; Chambers, Holding, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Elneny; Pepe, Odegaard, Aubameyang; Lacazette
- After beating Manchester City and West Ham losing over the weekend, Chelsea will all but finish in the top four. They are six points ahead of fifth position with three games remaining.
- Arsenal won a 3-1 victory over West Brom on Sunday, which relegated the Baggies. Plus, they have only lost two of their last ten Premier League games.
- However, they tend to underachieve and lose points away on the road.
- Arsenal have won in their last three encounters with Chelsea, but this will be their first encounter with Thomas Tuchel. Under Tuchel’s sterner tutelege, Arsenal may have difficulty extending their winning streak in this game.
So, Arsenal had success against Lampard’s Chelsea. But they have yet to face Tuchel’s tenacious and free-flowing team, who are the obvious favorites in this derby.
From here on out, Arteta may lose his job over any underwhelming score.
Still, the Spaniard’s side could simply be overwhelmed by Chelsea’s depth and tenacious defense.
So, finally, we can only back the hosts to win comfortably.
