Head coach Thomas Tuchel has picked, for the Chelsea goalkeeper in the FA Cup final, Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Another Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been in superb form since Tuchel came to the club.
His most recent success was keeping clean sheets against Real Madrid as Chelsea beat them to the Champions League final.
However, though he played in Chelsea’s 0-1 loss to Arsenal yesterday, Tuchel is going to show faith in Kepa instead.
Kepa was drafted into the starting lineup for the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday night that saw the German head coach taste defeat for just the third time in his tenure at Chelsea.
Chelsea Goalkeeper in the FA Cup Final – Kepa
Kepa has become Mendy’s understudy. He lost the goalkeeping gloves to Mendy three games into the new season, back when Lampard was in charge.
But Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Kepa will start in goal for Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Tuchel was asked by football.london if Kepa’s inclusion on Wednesday was a sign he would start at Wembley.
And the Blues head coach confirmed that it was.
Tuchel said: “He starts the cup final and we thought it was a good idea to give him the game before.”
“We trust him and he deserves it, that is the basis why we put him in the line up,” he went on.
“He deserves it. He is so close and good in training. We wanted to give him some minutes and to take both games together. It was an unlucky night for him as well.”
Kepa, the Spanish stopper, has started in every round of the competition so far.
This streak will continue into the final at Wembley when Tuchel targets his first piece of silverware since becoming manager.
The Blues will play the FA Cup final against Leicester City this weekend.
