Bournemouth Goalkeeper: A Healthy Young Person Like Me Having It Is Definitely Scary

Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been confirmed to have tested positively for coronavirus, days after his club revealed that an unidentified player had contracted COVID-19.

The 22-year-old told SunSport he was asymptomatic and, after a negative test on May 18, he tested positive on a second test on Friday.

Bournemouth said in its statement on Saturday: “Following strict adherence of the Premier League’s return to training regulations, the club’s training ground remains a safe working environment for players and backroom staff, who will continue to be tested for Covid-19 twice per week.”

Ramsdale, who has been the first choice as the goalkeeper for Bournemouth this term, told the Sun that he thought he had contracted the virus in the supermarket:

“If you know that you haven’t had it, so you only followed the rules and just went to the store, at first it was obviously frightening.

“Now I’m in the realisation that I’ve got it.”

He said: “It’s definitely a shock – I’ve not been in contact with anybody and I’ve now got it,” he said.

“I’m showing no symptoms so the fact that a healthy young person could potentially have it is definitely scary and worrying.”

The player, who has been capped for England to a level under 21, has been isolated with his wife since his diagnosis at his home in Bournemouth.

After the seven-day quarantine period, he will need to pass another test before returning to the training.

There have been two positive results among Premier League players and staff from COVID-19’s latest round of testing, with the other test coming from a different club.

It follows an earlier round of tests in which six men, including Watford defender Adrian Mariappa and Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan, had been found to have the virus.
