Karim Benzema returns to France’s team for Euro 2020 after nearly six years on the side-lines.
Didier Deschamps has been without Benzema since October 2015, following a legal squabble.
Benzema was involved in an alleged sex-video blackmail case with the victim being fellow France international Mathieu Valbuena. He is even facing jail time over his involvement in the crime.
But now, France’s national team have recalled the Real Madrid centre-forward by for Euro 2020.
Both coach Didier Deschamps and French Federation President Nöel Le Graet have agreed to list him in France’s roster, according to the official football federation website.
Benzema Will Play in Euro 2020
Following his prolific scoring seasons with Real Madrid, Benzema is now part of the Euro 2020 squad of 26 players.
Benzema has 22 goals this season in Madrid’s LaLiga title defense against Atletico Madrid.
Having last played for France in 2015, Karim Benzema returns to France’s team for Euro 2020 now.
His last French match was on October 10, 2015. It was a 4-0 victory over Armenia, in which he scored twice.
Benzema, who has 29 goals in 81 games, then missed the next, aka, 2016, European Championship, where France finished second.
He also missed seeing France emerge victorious in the 2018 World Cup campaign.
Recently, after saying he’s skipping the Olympics two months ago, Kylian Mbappe showed a keenness to join the Tokyo Games.
Mbappe is already in training as part of the Euro 2020 French squad, though. So, the forward from Paris Saint-Germain and the forward from Real Madrid will be teammates for France.
