Former Spain international Javi Martinez, most adept in a midfield holding role, but also effective in the defence centre, could leave Bayern Munich this summer.
That’s what El Mundo Deportivo says, citing a report from Kicker, a German media outlet. The outlet claims that this year the player could move on from the leaders of the Bundesliga League after spending eight seasons in Germany.
The 31-year-old was often injured in Bavaria, but since his €40 m switch from the Athletic Club Bilbao in 2012, he has clocked up 232 first-team appearances for Bayern.
It is said that Martinez is likely to break Joshua Kimmich’s preferred midfield trio of himself, Thiago Alcantara (his fellow Spaniard), and James Rodriguez. He may be seeking first-team football elsewhere in this stage of his career.
Martinez is anyway out of contract with Munich in the summer of 2021 so they can decide this year to cash-in on the player.
