Lyon striker Moussa Dembele has not impressed while on loan at Atletico Madrid. And if Atletico decide not to make the Frenchman’s loan move permanent, Arsenal will target Dembele for £25m this summer.
The former Celtic forward joined the Spanish side on a deal until the end of the season in January.
Dembele, 24, has spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Atletico Madrid from Lyon.
However, he has failed to net a single goal for Diego Simeone’s side in six appearances.
Furthermore, because he has only made four league appearances amid fitness issues, he’s not made much of mark with Atletico. He even fainted after a training session in March.
So, if the La Liga leaders don’t extend the French forward’s stay, they will potentially give Arsenal a bargain rate.
Arsenal Will Target Dembele for £25m
Meanwhile, Arsenal are interested in signing Moussa Dembele from Lyon for a fee in the range of £25 million (€29m/$35m), according to The Telegraph.
After all, the forward has a long history of being prolific in front of the net before 2020-21’s Atletico disaster.
He has 45 goals in 108 appearances for Lyon, after netting 51 in 94 Celtic games.
Arsenal may thus be relying on this impressive history as more indicative of his true talent level.
With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah likely to leave the Gunners, Dembele may be a replacement.
For Arsenal, he’s likely an alternative option to strengthen their attack at the end of the season.
If so, the Gunners will consider making a £25m bid to Lyon for his services.
Anyway, Atletico may decide against making the 24-year-old’s loan move permanent for around £30 million.
