Lukaku Officially Completes His Football Transfer to Chelsea

Late last night (11PM IST), Chelsea confirmed the signing of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter for a club-record fee. Earlier, we broke the transfer news football that he finished a medical in Milano in order to move to Chelsea. After seemingly flying to London for another medical (the football news), now, Lukaku officially completes his football transfer to Chelsea.

Chelsea quickly identified Lukaku as one of their preferred targets in the Blues’ search for a superstar striker this summer.

Another potential option was bringing in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, whose £150m price tag, though, proved too much for Chelsea.

Their focus thus returned to returning Lukaku to Stamford Bridge, as the star striker played for Chelsea sporadically previously. He played at the Bridge from 2011 to 2012, and later, even more briefly, from 2013 to 2014.

Actually, Serie A champions Inter had claimed that Romelu Lukaku was untouchable earlier this summer.

However, the striker’s desire to return to Stamford Bridge led them to accept a bid of £97.5 million from Chelsea.

Lukaku was supposed to have a medical last week, but various delays prevented him from going to Stamford Bridge. So, Chelsea have been unable to finalize things until just now.

It took somewhat longer than Chelsea expected, but they have now confirmed signing Romelu Lukaku again on their official website.

They have officially announced that Lukaku will return to the Bridge for round two of his career.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Lukaku said: “I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club. It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.

“The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling.

“The way the club is going fits my ambitions perfectly at 28 and just coming off winning Serie A. I think this opportunity comes at the right time and hopefully, we can have a lot of success together.”

He added: “Since I left Chelsea, it’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but these experiences made me strong and the challenge is to try to help the team win some more trophies. I can’t wait to get started and to help the club achieve more success.”
