La Liga Football Results – Two Scoreless Draws

Real Sociedad missed the opportunity to go to the top of La Liga. As they tied 0-0 with Sevilla at the Anoeta Stadium yesterday, so did Mallorca and Villarreal tie 0-0. Yesterday saw, among the football news from La Liga, football results, two scoreless draws play amidst four Spanish top-flight clubs.

In a slow opening to the Real Sociedad-Sevilla game, Sevilla’s newcomer Erik Lamela had an opportunity to open the score. His shot, however, sailed over the bar.

The tables could have changed when hosts Real Sociedad received a golden opportunity to break the 0-0 deadlock with Sevilla.

What happened was that the referee pointed to the penalty spot after the VAR review.

Consequently, Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal stepped up to take the penalty but he saw his shot saved by the rivals’ goalie.

Then, after the break, Sevilla made a double change bringing Óscar Rodríguez and Lucas Ocampos in to rejuvinate their performance.

Of the two, the Argentine forward quickly involved himself in play when he headed the ball from an inviting cross. But his header landed very wide.

On the other hand, Sociedad boss made a surprising move by substituting Oyarzabal with a 20-year-old winger Julen Lobete instead.

This substitution had little impact, however, as visitors Sevilla were still the better side in the second half.

However, the guests failed to score either and the match ended 0-0 as did the earlier Mallorca-Villarreal football match elsewhere.

Real Sociedad will try to get back to winning ways in the league while traveling to Granada later this week.

Meanwhile, Sevilla will now host Valencia on Wednesday.
