Inter Miami Will Keep Their Three Designated Players

Chris Henderson has confirmed that Inter Miami will keep their three Designated Players (DP) despite the scandal building around them. The club’s sporting director and chief soccer officer declared they intend to retain Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuain, and Rodolfo Pizarro.

The Herons finished 11th in the Eastern Conference, missing out on the MLS Cup Playoffs, in a disastrous 2021 season.

Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi (the football news), and Rodolfo Pizarro have all had good individual seasons, though.

Nonetheless, as a whole, Inter Miami never gelled as a team or found enough consistency to enter the playoffs.

Inter Miami Will Keep Their Three Designated Players

And now, Inter Miami sporting director and chief soccer officer, Chris Henderson, has owned up to their recent slump.

Henderson said the club is ‘listening to all ideas’ ahead of this winter’s roster overhaul. This overhaul has already begun with a number of players nearing the end of their contracts.

And the plan, per the Inter Miami sporting director, is to keep developing around the current three DPs.

Both Higuain and Matuidi will be 34 by the end of the month. This leaves just Pizarro (27) as the only feasible transfer target of these three Designated Players for other clubs.

“All three DPs are under contract, we’re moving forward with our DPs, but we’re listening to all options to help us improve the team,” Henderson told reporters via MLSsoccer.com.

“That group of players has the potential to carry this team.”
