Sevilla star Jules Kounde has admitted that he was affected by his failed football transfer to Chelsea in the summer. Among other of today’s football transfer news, Kounde was keen on Chelsea last summer, and crushed when the move collapsed.
Chelsea were among a host of clubs wanting to sign Jules Kounde because of his impressive 2020-21 campaign at Sevilla.
After all, the Sevilla player played a key role in the club’s run to a fourth-place Liga finish.
Indeed, the France international’s versatility proved to be among the most crucial factors for head coach Julen Lopetegui’s domestic campaign.
Football Transfer News – Kounde Was Keen on Chelsea Last Summer
In the last transfer window, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel sought to add greater depth to his defensive ranks.
So vehemently did the Blues want him, that media heavily documented Chelsea’s saga in their pursuit of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Shortly after the summer transfer deadline, though, coach Julen Lopetegui confirmed that Chelsea had not met Sevilla’s valuation of Kounde.
Chelsea opted against paying his €80m (£68m/$95m) release clause to Sevilla.
And back then, after this collapse of the deal, the Spanish manager told Diario de Sevilla: “Kounde, in the end, has stayed because the club has decided that it was the right thing to do based on the evaluation of the offers they may have had.”
Thus, Sevilla ultimately managed to keep hold of Kounde. But the 23-year-old has now indicated he was coping with immense disappointment over not securing the move to Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, Kounde says he only recently came to terms with missing out on a move to the English Premier League.
The French defender told French broadcaster Telefoot: “Did my failed transfer to Chelsea this summer affect me? Yes, a little bit, but now it’s digested.”
