Leeds United are close to agreeing on a club-record fee of £30 million for Manchester United winger Daniel James. So, among other of today’s football transfer news, for £30m, Leeds may sign a United winger who almost moved to Elland Road in January 2019.
James’ proposed £10 million move to Leeds fell through in the winter transfer window two years ago.
His former club Swansea failed to fulfill their transfer responsibilities, though the player even posed with a Leeds United shirt.
A few months later, he joined Manchester United for £15 million. And there, at Old Trafford, he played 46 times in all competitions in his debut season.
But opportunities were scarce for the Wales international last season.
And now, the arrival of Jadon Sancho will make it even more difficult for him to play as a winger.
Add Cristiano Ronaldo’s impending re-signing, football transfer, with United to that and James will fall further down United’s pecking order.
Football Transfer News – For £30m, Leeds May Sign a United Winger
23-year-old Daniel James has started two of the club’s first three Premier League games for Manchester United.
And yet, they have decided to let James go, which is fortunate because Leeds are ready to take him.
This is because, elsewhere in the Premier League, Leeds currently has only two wing options for their attacking area.
This is Jack Harrison on the left wing and Raphinha on the right one. Leeds also use Stuart Dallas, Junior Firpo, and Luke Ayling occasionally as wingers.
So, in other words, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking for another winger for some time.
Indeed, the club had previously considered a summer bid for Adama Traore from EPL rivals Wolves.
And now, according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph, James’ transfer to Leeds is “on the verge of completion”.
