Football Today – Pep Comments on City’s Shock Defeat to Spurs
“We allowed them [Spurs] too much, we couldn’t control it, especially the simple thing when you lose the passes in certain positions it is always more difficult,” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told the press after losing the match, as per BBC.
Tottenham Hotspur edged past Manchester City with a marginal 1-0 tally in their favour.
And Spurs’ star striker – besides Harry Kane, who didn’t play against his rumoured suitors – Son Heung-min made it happen.
His effort in the 40th minute saw rewards in the 55th minute. 15 minutes after a failed attempt, Tottenham’s Son sent the ball in the net, while City didn’t score despite opportunities.
In reaction to this, City coach Pep Guardiola said: “Football is goals and Son Heung-min scored, we couldn’t.”
“It is normal for a season with not much preparation,” he went on. “The spirit was good but we lost. I am more that surprised how good we were at many things.”
“A lot of players arrived too late for Euros, for COVID, for many obstacles,” he added.
“Players come back and every week we will be better,” Pep reassured in the end.
