Manchester United Are Scoping Out Valverde after Pochettino

Ernesto Valverde

Because Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mourinho Pochettino dismissed transfer rumours about Manchester United, the Red Devils are considering Ernesto Valverde. So, while looking at other alternatives too (football transfer news), Manchester United are scoping out Valverde after Pochettino rejected them.

People at Old Trafford are stepping up their search for a new coach after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (football transfer).

And PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino is at the top of their wish list to succeed Solskjaer. Some sources even say that the former Tottenham boss is already keen to take the position now.

However, Pochettino has knocked back United’s first enquiry because he is still under contract with the French side until 2023.

As we understand it, Paris Saint-Germain are not prepared to let him go without a fight. And they are especially vigilant over offers for their head coach in the middle of the season.

Manchester United have, therefore, turned their attention to Ernesto Valverde.

After having to eliminate Mauricio Pochettino as an option, Manchester United have held talks with former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde.

In fact, the two parties have negotiated over the interim manager position at Old Trafford, Goal can confirm.

The news agency can even confirm that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward (the football news) is involving himself in these negotiations.

Beside Woodward’s efforts in hiring an interim manager, it also involves football director John Murtogh and technical director Darren Fletcher.

Michael Carrick took charge of his first game as temporary, caretaker manager in United’s 0-2 win against Villarreal. So, Manchester United finally won a football match, and that too in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Still, the club are in active talks to bring in Solskjaer’s interim coaching replacement until the end of the season.

And we have found that Ernesto Valverde is one of the names on their short-term option list. The coach left Barcelona in January 2020, having won them two La Liga titles.
