Football Today – Griezmann’s Atletico Salary Is Half His Barca Salary

To facilitate his move from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid, Antoine Griezmann agreed to cut his salary nearly in half. After his deadline-day return (football transfer), among other news in football today, Griezmann’s Atletico salary is half his Barca salary.

Antoine Griezmann saw transfer rumours linking him to a return to Atletico Madrid, aka Los Rojiblancos, earlier in the summer.

And finally, Griezmann got his move late on the very final day of this past summer transfer window’s deadline.

The former Barcelona forward returned to Atletico on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for around £34 million.

Football Today – Griezmann’s Atletico Salary Is Half His Barca Salary

Antoine Griezmann’s comeback to Atletico Madrid was a move that initially didn’t happen due to a number of financial issues.

One of these obstacles was Atleti’s refusal to pay Griezmann’s full Barcelona wages, which were allegedly over £300,000 per week.

Now, Goal reports that Griezmann agreed to cut his wages by around 40% in order to get the deal done.

He thus conceded to bringing his salary to a level which Atletico felt comfortable with.

Moreover, Barcelona also did not request a loan fee. All this means that Atletico had no hidden costs in bringing their former superstar back to the Wanda Metropolitano.

As part of the agreement, Atletico has agreed to sign Griezmann on a permanent basis. However, there is some wiggle room in this contract for a season-long loan deal.

This simply means that Atleti can extend it for another year if they pay Barcelona a set fee next summer.

If they do this, the £34m obligation remains, but it will only become operative conditionally.

This clause only applies if Griezmann appears in 50 percent of Atletico’s games in the 2022/23 season. However, readers must note, this is a relatively easy target to meet.
