“The qualification was earned away in Budapest, Warsaw and Albania,” Southgate told ITV, as per BBC.

“I have to credit all our players and staff for a very good year,” the coach then continued. “We cannot do anything about the level of opposition but the mentality and the way they applied themselves was terrific.”

Southgate remarked: “If I left Harry [Kane] on the pitch for another half an hour, we would have had Wayne Rooney’s family on the phone.

“He is a phenomenal goalscorer. We wanted to give him the chance tonight and he took it well,” he added.

To recap, Harry Kane registered 4 goals against San Marino last night before leaving the pitch in the 63rd minute.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker now has 48 goals for the national team surpassing Jimmy Greaves with 44 accurate shots. He equals Gary Lineker sharing the third spot of all-time England goalscorers.

Ballon d’Or winner and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton scored 49 international goals. And he himself is second only to Wayne Rooney who has 53 goals across his international career for England.
