Football Prediction – Brazil vs Spain

The Nissan Stadium in Japan will host the conclusion of the men’s football tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Here is our expert football prediction – Brazil vs Spain, for when Brazil Under-23s face Spain Under-23s in the gold-medal match.

Brazil is attempting to defend and retain their gold medal from their home tournament five years ago (the football news).

Meanwhile, Spain is making its first appearance in an Olympic final since 2000, when the country won a silver medal. They barely won by 0-1 over Japan, slightly underwhelming our expectations from our football prediction, to reach the finals.

Team news

Brazil

  • Brazilian star Richarlison currently leads the goalscoring chart. And he is all but certain to win the Golden Boot at the Tokyo Olympics. Only Mir and Oyarzabal are in contention for the title. The former would need to score a brace to equal the Brazilian forward and the latter would need a hat-trick.
  • Brazil has used the same back four for all the tournament matches. So, Guilherme Arana, Diego Carlos, Nino, and Alves will most likely start again on Saturday.
  • Both Santos and Unai Simon, who currently have three clean sheets each, are in contention for the Golden Gloves. And so are Japan’s Kosei Tani and New Zealand’s Michael Woud.

Brazil Under-23s possible starting lineup: Santos; Arana, Carlos, Nino, Alves; Guimaraes, Luiz; Richarlison, Claudinho, Paulinho; Antony

Spain

  • De la Fuente’s squad has rotated slightly more than Jardine’s. However, Martin Zubimendi, Pedri, and Mikel Merino’s midfield trio has remained consistent for the last three games this summer. This super trio may as well continue in the final.
  • Meanwile, Oyarzabal has started all five games for Spain so far at the Olympics. And he is after also appearing for the senior side at the Euros this summer.
  • He has been one of Spain’s biggest threats in front of goal in Japan. He’s scored two and assisted on two of the eight goals scored by Spain.

Spain Under-23s possible starting lineup: Simon; Cucurella, Torres, Garcia, Gil; Zubimendi, Pedri, Merino; Asensio, Oyarzabal, Olmo

Football Prediction – Brazil vs Spain

  • Brazil led Group D by two points after their first week in Japan, with two victories and one draw.
  • Richarlison’s tournament could not have started any better. The Everton striker scored a hat-trick against Germany in the first 30 minutes of Brazil’s tournament, which ended 4-2.
  • Andre Jardine’s side finished their group stage with a convincing 3-1 win against Saudi Arabia. This is also the match in which Richarlison added two more goals to his tally this summer.
  • Spain, on the other hand, along with Egypt, had the lowest scoring average in the group stages. This, of course, is among the teams that advanced to the knockout stages. Indeed, Spain scored only twice in their first three games in Japan.
  • Then, Luis de la Fuente’s team was more clinical in front of goal, scoring five goals against quarter-finalists Ivory Coast. Rafa Mir scored a hat-trick and Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal also scored a goal each.

Both teams have thus shown the strength of their squads, and we expect the final to be a close battle. We think their levelness will necessitate extra time to determine the gold medalists.

With the exception of the Ivory Coast game, Spain has not scored many goals in a single game this summer.

On the other hand, Brazil’s firepower in front of goal will come through, after the 90-minute mark, for the win.

Our Prediction: Brazil Under-23s 2-1 Spain Under-23s (after extra time)
