Because the Barcelona midfielder is set to undergo another knee operation, Ansu Fati will miss Euro 2020, writes Marca.
The 18-year-old midfielder will undergo a third surgery for his knee which has been ailing since an injury in November.
At the end of March, Fati’s knee was examined by two doctors who specialize in meniscus treatment.
They recommended another operation, though Fati underwent two operations already, in rapid succession.
After the surgery in March, Fati and Barcelona were putting up a hopeful front, with plans to resume training by now.
However, Barcelona recently discovered that there’s no way out of a third surgery for Fati.
Fati was originally scheduled to miss around four months, after getting injured in November of last year.
However, more than half a year has now passed without his returning to football.
Now, it seems, he will not take to the field again for now and will most definitely miss this season.
Especially, most regretfully, Fati will miss Euro 2020, and possibly even the Olympics.
So, the Spaniard will now be operated on by Dr José Carlos Noronha.
The knee doctor offers special therapy, which shortens the recovery time after injuries.
And he believes that Fati will recover quickly from surgery. However, he will draw more specific conclusions on Thursday when he examines the player.
Noronha, who works for the Portuguese national team, is regarded as one of the best knee injury specialists in the world.
Dr. Noronha has previously operated on Pepe, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Arjen Robben, and other players. Even Cristiano Ronaldo employs his services.
