In the match of the fifth round of Group C of the European League, Spartak beat Napoli 2-1 in Moscow. They have thus recorded their second victory against the current leaders of the Italian top flight, Serie A, this season. So, in last night’s Europa League football results, Spartak Moscow stunned Napoli again, in a group stage match.
Napoli has recorded only three defeats this season, only one of which was in Serie A – last weekend against Inter.
Two losses came in the Europa League, and both from the Moscow team. After Spartak Moscow first beat Napoli in their Europa League Group C football match, they did it again now.
Spartak won 3-2 in the first match in Naples, and tonight, for the return leg at home in snowy Moscow. This time around, Spartak Moscow hosted Napoli to beat them 2-1.
Also, it was the third match in a row in which Napoli did not win. In the two domestic matches before this, Napoli suffered a 1-1 draw against Verona and a 2-3 defeat by Inter.
Now, in the second match of this group on Thursday, Leicester City and Legia Warsaw will meet.
Till then, Napoli and Spartak lead the table with seven points each; Legia has six and Leicester has five points.
Europa League Football Results – Spartak Moscow Stunned Napoli Again
The hosts took the lead in the second minute of the game from a penalty kick that Aleksander Sobolev took.
Stanislav Lobotka was the one who committed the foul, by knocking down Promes with a sliding start. As a result of this, French referee Clement Turpin pointed to the white dot.
The home side could have put themselves ahead more definitely (by 2-0) after 11 minutes. But then, Victor Moses missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
On the other hand, Napoli threatened for the first time in the 16th minute, but Elif Elmas was not accurate.
In the 25th minute, Piotr Zielinski also threatened to score, but Aleksandr Selikhov was safe.
In exactly the moments when Napoli came close to equalizing next, Sobolev scored 2-0 on Moses’ cross for Spartak, instead.
Napoli played much better in the second half. Indeed, in the 51st minute Di Lorenzo shook the net, though VAR review showed that he was in the backfield.
In the 64th minute, however, Napoli’s path became clear and Elmas scored with a header for 2-1 after Petagna’s assist.
Just three minutes later Zielinski had a great chance for equalizing 2-2 for Napoli, but he shot over the goal.
In the last moments of the match, the guests had another chance, Elmas shot, but Selihov reacted, saved, well again.
