After suffering two COVID incidents, ahead of Euro 2020, Spain has called up 17 extra players. This long list pf players includes Brahim Diaz and Gonzalo Villar.
Sergio Busquets and Diego Llorente have tested positive for Coronavirus just days before the competition begins.
While this also caused fear among the team, it has mandated a massive recall of Spanish players.
Euro 2020 – Spain Has Called Up 17 Extra Players
Spain utilized the Under-21 team to beat Lithuania in a friendly Friday night.
They did so despite concerns that the infection could spread among the group.
Now it has been announced that 11 of those players will remain with the senior Spain group.
They will accompany the Spanish Euro 2020 troupe for the next several days and train with them.
They are Alvaro Fernandez (Huesca), Oscar Mingueza (Barcellona), Marc Cucurella (Getafe), Bryan Gil (Siviglia), Juan Miranda (Betis), Gonzalo Villar (Roma), Alex Pozo (Eibar), Brahim Diaz (Milan), Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Yeremy Pino (Villareal) and Javi Puado (Espanyol).
Spain’s Euro 2020 Run
In our Euro 2020 team preview for Spain, we mentioned coach Luis Enrique’s predicament.
The coach said that due to injuries, he was unable to call up many players for Spain’s Euro 2020 campaign.
Indeed, in Enrique’s 24-man line-up, even Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos was snubbed.
Still, despite all this, they could ensure themselves a spot in the last 16 as the third-best team.
After winning their group, if they do, we predict they have a chance to advance to the quarter-finals and further.
