Euro 2020: Netherlands and Scotland Tied 2 – 2

In today’s fixture in Euro 2020, Netherlands and Scotland tied 2 – 2.

The Netherlands relied on a brace from Memphis Depay to avert a loss against Scotland in Euro 2020 on Wednesday.

Memphis Depay scored both goals for the Netherlands, amongst other football news today.

So, Frank de Boer’s team then came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Scotland.

Though, Scotland were missing seven players due to a confirmed coronavirus case in the squad.

Hendry had broken the two countries’ deadlock in spectacular fashion in the 11th minute.

He smashed in a low, right-footed drive from just outside the penalty area. This is how he punished the Netherlands players after a costly error from a goal kick.

However, Depay responded with an equalizer when he curled in a free-kick and tied the game 1-1.

The influential Netherlands forward had earlier cancelled out Jack Hendry’s long-range opening in Faro, as well.

Here, the two nations preparing for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament could not be separated after 90 minutes.

However, when Tim Krul denied Lyndon Dykes, the Netherlands reacted with an eye-catching shot of their own.

Kevin Nisbet’s first international goal put Scotland on course for their first win over the Dutch since November 2003.

Then, a long pass found Georginio Wijnaldum, after making a forward move into the penalty area.

Wijnaldum headed the ball down into the path of supporting teammate Depay, who blasted a left-footed volley beyond Craig Gordon.

After his assist, Wijnaldum did not play for long, though. Instead, De Boer replaced both his captain and fellow midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, in the 31st minute.

Substitutions, including the entrance of Nisbet, became a recurrent motif in the second half of this game.

After taking over for Dykes, the attacker had an immediate impact. He scored when the ball found him after Andy Robertson’s enticing cross from Scotland’s left-wing.

Gordon denied Patrick van Aanholt to protect the lead. However, there was nothing Gordon could do about Depay’s set-piece score in the 89th minute.
