The Netherlands return to a major event for the first time since 2014. However, they are still a long way from the glory days of Euro 88, Euro 2000, and Euro 2004.
Actually, the KNVB had to do a lot of soul searching after missing two major tournaments in a row.
Euro 2020 Group C Team Preview – Netherlands
Former player and captain Frank De Boer leads the Netherlands at Euro 2020.
And we feel their prospects will be restricted this summer with a roster of youthful, motivated, and experienced players. All will be wanting to prove their worth on the international scene for the final time, after all.
So, we would not call the Netherlands favorites for the trophy. We instead predict that they will just make it to the quarter-finals.
In our opinion, adulation and comments that they “were back”, when they received qualification, were premature.
The legendary Dutch teams of the past included the likes of Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, and Dennis Bergkamp.
The biggest differences between the present roster and that one are their distinct qualities from their more legendary counterparts.
The Netherlands had a consistent record at the European Championship, with the exception of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. In 2012, they did not get past the group round.
But now, the 2020 vintage is enthusiastic and hardworking.
However, finally, they are a little too inexperienced to make an impact and win Euro 2020.
