Euro 2020 Group A Team Preview – Switzerland

Euro 2020 Group A Team Preview – Switzerland

Per our Euro 2020 Group A team preview, Switzerland has all the ingredients to advance far in the tournament.

Despite their difficult group, which includes Italy, Wales, and Turkey, we have a good feeling about the Swiss.

We anticipate that they will at least reach the round of 16 for the fourth straight major tournament.

In fact, we opine that they will even advance past this level for the first time since 1954.

Switzerland has recently demonstrated that it can compete with any country in football. One sublime example is their thrilling 5-2 victory over Belgium to qualify for the UEFA Nations League finals in 2019.

Before that, in 2018, they also tied with Brazil and beat Spain in the 2010 World Cup.

Finally, they pushed Argentina to extra time in the 2014 World Cup and beat Spain in the 2010 World Cup.

It’s also critical that Switzerland have crucial players like Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, and Haris Seferovic on their side. These players perform to their full potential in order for Switzerland to have the best opportunity of winning the tournament.

Euro 2020 Group A Team Preview – Switzerland

This year’s group is the most balanced and toughest group Switzerland has ever faced in recent tournament history.

All four teams in Group A have the potential to beat each other. Switzerland has the potential to finish first in the group. But, with their first game being against Wales, they should be able to qualify in second place at least.

Of course, third place is now a possible Euro qualification spot, but Switzerland may not have to rely on it.

We also believe that the Swiss have a chance to advance further, they may qualify beyond the last 16. This time, they could enter the upper echelons of the tournament if the draw is favorable.

They were unhappy when they were drawn with Poland and Sweden at that stage.

They could not defeat these two similar teams in that stage of the last two major championships.

We nonetheless believe the team has grown and learnt from those heartbreaking losses.

All in all, with all the football news today, Switzerland, in our opinion, will reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
