Elliott Wants to Imitate Mane and Salah’s Success at Liverpool

Harvey Elliott

Working alongside two Liverpool greats, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, has inspired Harvey Elliott. Indeed, among other news in football today, Elliott wants to imitate Mane and Salah’s success at Liverpool, he himself reveals.

Now, on the other hand, Elliott is back at Anfield, playing for Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

And it was Jurgen Klopp who now gave Elliott his full Premier League debut in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

So, now-18-year-old Harvey Elliott previously played for Fulham at the age of 16 years and 30 days. This early debut witnessed Elliot becoming the Premier League’s youngest player ever.

Not only this, Elliott became Liverpool’s 10th youngest player to start a top-flight game as well. He’s also now the youngest player to debut across all Premier League clubs since Ben Woodburn in April 2017.

So, after a successful loan spell with Blackburn in the Championship last season, he’s proving he can fit right in.

Elliott Wants to Imitate Mane and Salah’s Success at Liverpool

“The first few training sessions after I first arrived at Liverpool was like, Woah, I am actually training with these guys,” Elliott responded to The Athletic and BT Sport about Salah and Mane.

Nonetheless, though he now sees the duo as competitors for first-team spots at Liverpool, he still looks up to them.

Elliott continued: “Going from watching them live on TV to seeing them in person and training alongside them, you really realise what a presence they bring. They are world-class players but we’re all here to fight for a place in the team.

“We’re all competing for the same thing. Now I look upon them as my competition. I learn a lot from them.

“They are great inspirations to kids around the world — and to me too — with what they have been through and what they’ve achieved. I want to achieve big things like they have.”
