Although this isn’t exactly an update on Indian football players, but on outsiders playing in India, Indian Super League side SC East Bengal will release two foreigners in the January transfer window.
SC East Bengal had a very poor start to the current season and indeed, they are yet to win a single game.
With 3 draws and 4 losses in their last 7 games, the Torch Bearers are currently placed at the bottom of the table. This also means SC East Bengal only have 3 points, from the 3 draws, this far.
Now, in response, as the January winter transfer window approaches, the SCEB think tank are resolute to revamp their squad.
In fact, they have already confirmed the release of two players’ contracts.
East Bengal Will Release Two Foreigners
Australian defender Tomislav Mrčela and Slovenian midfielder Amir Dervišević are two players whom the Red and Gold Brigade will release.
When the season started, SC East Bengal actually announced Tomislav Mrčela as their vice-captain. East Bengal fans had huge hopes from the Australian centre-back whom the club brought in to command the backline. But as the season progressed Mrčela never settled down to fit the style of the ISL. His lack of pace and decision-making made the East Bengal defense suffer several times. As a result, in the 2021-22 season, East Bengal went on to concede the most number of goals in the league.
Meanwhile, if any signing gave East Bengal fans hope at this season’s beginning, it was surely Slovenia International Amir Dervisevic. Dervisevic, who is popular for his creativity on the pitch, could’ve been the biggest creative outlet for the SCEB. But the Slovenian has failed to live up to these high expectations so far. Apart from a single goal for East Bengal against FC Goa, he hasn’t offered up much in the season.
In consequence, sources confirmed that the SCEB management has finally decided to release both Tomislav Mrcela and Amir Dervisevic. SC East Bengal will also sign replacements in January and try to push for a respectable position in the league.
