Could This Weekend Bring Ibrahimovic’s First Start for This Season?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not started for Milan since May, but that could change when they travel to Bologna on Saturday. So, among other news in football today, we ask, could this weekend bring Ibrahimovic’s first start for this season?

While Zlatan Ibrahimovic has featured extensively for AC Milan off the bench, as a substitute, he has yet to start. Indeed, Ibra hasn’t started even once since this new 2021-22 season began in July/August.

But, when Milan takes on Bologna in the Champions League, Ibra may finally might make his first start since May.

In midweek, Milan lost 1-0 to Porto in the Champions League for the third time in a row (football scores).

Despite the three points that this win brings, however, they are at the bottom of Group B.

Although, Stefano Pioli’s side is having a much better season in Serie A than Champions League.

The Rossoneri are as yet unbeaten in the Italian Serie A and are in second place, two points behind Napoli.

At the same time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has only started three games across all competitions this season, and none for Milan. He has not started a game for his club since Milan’s victory over Juventus way back on May 9.

However, the 40-year-old might be in Milan’s line-up against a Bologna team, who are in eighth place in Serie A. And this inclusion in Milan’s starting XI may finally put an end to his wait on Saturday.

“Ibrahimovic needs to train and play,” said Pioli ahead of the trip to Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on a press conference.

“He’s been training with the group for a week, but I still have to decide who will start between him and [Olivier] Giroud.

“I will decide the line-up tomorrow [Saturday] morning. Right now, we can’t play with two strikers. When they feel well, they could play together.”
