Championship Football Results – Blackburn Fought Hard for a 1-0 on Boro

Blackburn climbed into the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion places after a marginal 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Monday night. So, in last night’s Championship football results, Blackburn fought hard for a 1-0 on Boro at home.

The First Half

In the first half, while Boro’s Joe Lumley seldom had to make saves, the hosts’ chances came at regular intervals.

For instance, a quick reaction from the goalkeeper prevented Matt Crooks inadvertently turning the ball into his own net. This was after an attempt to block off Jan Paul van Hecke at a corner.

Then, Lumley charged down John Buckley’s shot and Reda Khadra whipped a fierce free-kick over from 20 yards.

If that wasn’t enough, Mowbray’s men also restricted their opponents to literally zero shots throughout the first 45 minutes. This was despite their, at times, overwhelming dominance over ball possession.

But right before the break, there was a contentious moment. Tayo Edun brought down young Middlesbrough wing-back Isaiah Jones in the penalty area. Jones did his best to stay on his feet, however, helping referee Darren England decide not to award a penalty.

The Second Half

Middlesbrough gained momentum after the break and saw two unsuccessful shots twice in quick succession. Aaron Connolly’s shot charged down moments before Lewis Travis, perfectly-placed, headed Matt Crooks’ close-range header off the line.

The game halted for nine minutes midway through the second half due to a medical emergency in the crowd. Both the stewards and the medical staff of both teams all immediately responded to this emergency.

Shortly after proceedings did get back under way, Gallagher scored what proved to be the winner. Boro tried and failed to clear a corner on two occasions before that.

But then, a mis-kick from McNair directed the ball toward striker Gallagher, whose clinical effort flew into the bottom-left corner.

Chris Wilder introduced Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun and Duncan Watmore to beef up the visitors’ attack in the closing stages.

However, it was Crooks again who had the final chance. We saw him leaping to meet a ball in from the right and steering another free header over the bar.
