Bundesliga Football Results – Augsburg Drew 1-1 with Leipzig

Augsburg turned a Bundesliga fixture around late to earn a valuable point against RB Leipzig at Augsburg Arena on Wednesday. Substitute Daniel Caligiuri scored from the penalty spot to cancel out Andre Silva’s first-half goal for the visitors. So, in last night’s Bundesliga football results, Augsburg drew 1-1 with Leipzig after luck brought them a late penalty goal.

New RB Leipzig head coach Domenico Tedesco tried to inspire his players to a first away win of the campaign.

And Die Roten Bullen’s early opening goal to this Matchday 16 encounter at the WWK Arena must have impressed him.

Making his tenth start of the season, Emil Forsberg tricked his way into the Augsburg area after just five minutes. But he then flashed a shot just narrowly wide of the far post.

Soon afterwards, the visitors attacked again when Silva profited from some fine Christopher Nkunku work on the counter-attack. Dismally, though, Silva ultimately took too long to dispatch his shot toward the goalpost.

But Silva made amends for this early miss and soon brought his tally up to three goals in three games. He controlled Benjamin Henrichs’s smart centre and prodded the ball in from close range.

In response, the hosts raised their efforts as they looked to match that standard after the restart.

Hoping to mark his 60th appearance for the Bavarians with a goal, Reece Oxford rose highest to meet a corner. But the ball flew wide of the upright.

Michael Gregoritsch then very narrowly failed to connect with a Fredrik Jensen cross. This cross would have almost certainly resulted in a goal had the Austrian been even only a little bit sharper.

Meanwhile, Leipzig briefly threatened Markus Weinzierl’s men at the other end, where Forsberg had a goal ruled out for offside. Nordi Mukiele, too, attempted a header but the ball hit against a post.

Yet, momentum was now on the side of the hosts as Sergio Cordova’s looping header also just hit the bar.

Sure enough, Henrichs’s handball in the box resulted in a penalty reward for Die Fuggerstädter.

And soon, after Caligiuri lashed home from the white spot, Augsburg were celebrating winning a deserved point, same as Leipzig.

Augsburg 1 – 1 Leipzig
