ATK Mohun Bagan Have Released Head Coach Antonio Habas

Among other football transfer news today to do with saddening departures, ATK Mohun Bagan have released head coach Antonio Habas.

As ATKMB fire Habas with immediate effect, his assistant coach Manuel Cascallana will now take over as the interim manager.

The Kolkata-based side are going through a rough patch of form and remain winless in their last four matches.

ATK Mohun Bagan won their first two matches (updates on Indian football players) in 2021-22’s Indian Super League (ISL) campaign.

But despite Habas’ football prediction to the contrary, Mumbai City FC defeated them 5-1. And, following this crushing defeat, ATKMB suffered yet another loss to Jamshedpur FC.

And while their performance improved against Chennaiyin FC but they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Finally, in their last outing against Bengaluru FC, their leaky defence once again came to the forefront. Though they scored three goals, they also conceded goals thrice and the match ended 3-3.

This disappointing run of four matches without a single victory has derailed ATK Mohun Bagan’s bid for the championship.

Currently, Bagan are seven points adrift of the present league leaders as well as title defenders Mumbai City FC.

ATK Mohun Bagan Have Released Head Coach Antonio Habas

(Former) ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Antonio Habas remains one of the most successful coaches in ISL.

After all, under Habas’ reign, ATKMB have won the Indian Super League title two times.

In the previous season, too, while not winning the title again, Habas guided the Mariners to second place. They were the first runners-up in the league table because they missed out on the pole position by a whisker.

This time, the green and maroon brigade reinforced their squad with the target of qualifying for the AFC Champions League.

But now, their head coach, Antonio Habas, himself will not remain to guide the team there. ATK Mohun Bagan have sacked the immensely successful manager.

Meanwhile, Manuel Cascalla, a long-time associate of Habas will be at the helm of affairs as ATKMB’s interim manager.

Who will get the final nod to take charge of ATK Mohun Bagan next?
