Andreas Pereira Could Suffer a Six-game Ban in Brazil

Andrea Pereira, a Manchester United midfielder now on loan at Flamengo, may face a suspension in Brazil. If authorities find that he has violated COVID-19 quarantine procedures, Andrea Pereira could suffer a six-game ban in Brazil possibly.

Pereira came to Flamengo, the defending Brazilian champions, from Manchester United only recently, on August 20th.

And that was back when UK visitors were still required to self-isolate for 14 days.

However, Pereira made his Flamengo debut barely a week after the move was completed. He came off the bench to score a goal in a 4-0 win over Santos.

So now, this premature debut has prompted action from Brazil’s Superior Sports Court for Football.

The midfielder spent the summer in England and was a member of Manchester United’s pre-season squad.

Early one morning, United declared Pereira’s loan to Flamengo, and stated that he was travelling to Brazil that very day.

Amidst this, there was no hint that he had not already spent some time in isolation in Brazil.

Now, according to a statement from the Superior Sports Court for Football, they will hold a disciplinary hearing soon.

It will be on October 8th, with the player facing penalties as a possible sanction by the Superior Sports Court.

According to the court, Pereira signed documents promising to follow the guidelines when he came. They even hold evidence of this via a record from the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency.

And so, the court has stated that it will not conduct an investigation into facts that have already been “substantiated.”

Further, the court has asked Flamengo to submit an epidemiological questionnaire. This document asks questions in connection with Pereira’s selection for the match against Santos on August 28th.

The questionnaire will also ask about the official documentation that the player completed upon his arrival in Brazil as well.
