In yesterday’s Africa Cup of Nations football results, Burkina Faso drew with Ethiopia, securing a place in the knockout stage. Cyrille Bayala’s first half goal helped them to an uninspiring 1-1 draw with Ethiopia and second place in Group A.
Despite just gaining their first point, Ethiopia faced elimination with this draw but gave a much better defensive performance here. Meanwhile, 2013 finalists Burkina Faso have a lot to improve if they are to go deep in the tournament.
Hosts Cameroon are top with seven points followed on four by Burkina Faso. The latter have, however, edged Cape Verde Islands into third spot on the head-to-head rule. Burkina Faso now face an anxious wait to see if they one of the four best third-placed sides to advance.
Africa Cup of Nations Football Results – Burkina Faso Drew with Ethiopia
At the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam on Monday, Bayala netted the ball midway through the opening period. But Ethiopia striker Getaneh Kebede cancelled out Bayala’s goal with an 82nd-minute penalty.
But it was the west Africans who took the lead with a goal and this netting was simple to create.
Bayala chased Adama Guira’s long ball and soon outstripped the opposing defenders. He then lobbed advancing Ethiopia goalkeeper Teklemariam Shanko with a tidy finish.
That was as good as it got for Malo’s men, and Ethiopia were level seven minutes into the second period. They won a spot kick for Steeve Yago’s handball from a corner.
VAR review made this decision and it was the correct one. So, Kebede arrowed his penalty into the bottom corner to draw his side level.
