FC Barcelona Femení have smashed the world record fee to bring Keira Walsh from Manchester City. Despite the midfielder having just one year left on her City contract.
She will arrive in Catalonia for a reported fee of £400,000 on a 3 year deal. She will travel to spain after completing international duty.
Walsh arrived at City in 2014 as a teenager and went on to play 211 games. In the processshe became the Club’s joint all-time appearance holder. Tied with Steph Houghton at the time of her departure.
She lifted eight trophies in as many years with the Citizens. She also scored eight times.
The 25-year-old is considered one of the best midfielders. She recently won the recent European Championship. Furthermore, she was named MVP of the final against Germany.
She has won four leagues and three cups with City. And has been capped by England 50 times.
Barça Femení announced: “FC Barcelona and Manchester City have reached an agreement on the transfer of English midfielder Keira Walsh, who will be signing a contract through to 30 June 2025.
“The player is currently playing World Cup qualifiers for her country, and will be coming to Barcelona to join her new team-mates once the international break is over.”
The Citizens announced: “Manchester City can confirm that Keira Walsh has joined Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.
“The England international will move onto pastures new ahead of the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
“Everybody at Manchester City would like to thank Keira for her contributions during her time at the Club and wish her all the best for the future.”
