Eric Bailly has moved to Olympique de Marseille on loan for a season, which includes an option to buy.

The Ivorian defender started off life in Manchester fairly well. Following a move from Villarreal for a reported fee of £30 million.

The centre-back in his first three seasons managed to make 50 appearances. However, this figure was limited to just 20 in the last three seasons.

Following the acquisition Lisandro Martínez, Bailly has made the move to Stade Vélodrome.

Les Olympiens announced: ‘Olympique de Marseille today announced the signing of Eric Bailly. The 28-year-old Ivorian international defender signed up in the form of a loan with option to buy after the success of his medical visit.

‘Born in Bingerville (Ivory Coast) on April 12, 1994, the new Olympian central defender made his debut in professional football in Spain, with Espanyol Barcelona.

‘Transferred to Villarreal, he began his adventure with the Yellow Submarine on February 22, 2015.

‘The following season, he played 35 matches in all competitions and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.

‘He then joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016 and started in the best possible way by winning the Community Shield against Leicester by being named man of the match.

‘During his 6 seasons in England, Éric Bailly plays regularly on the continental scene. Playing 3 Champions League campaigns but also 3 Europa League. A competition he won in 2017 against Ajax Amsterdam, and finalist in 2021.

‘An experienced, fast and powerful central defender, Éric Bailly completes OM’s rear guard. And will provide all his qualities to help the club achieve its goals.’
