Diego Costa has signed with Wolves for the rest of the ongoing season as a free agent

Diego Costa has signed with Wolves for the rest of the ongoing season as a free agent.

He joined Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in January 2021, after his contract with Atlético Madrid was terminated at the end of 2020. However, on 16 January 2022, after only playing 19 times and scoring 5 goals. Diego Costa terminated his contract and became a free agent.

The striker joins the Midands club after making 495 league appearances. Playing for few of the elite clubs across Europe and South America he has scored 188 appearances.

Furthermore, the 33-year-old has won 2 caps for Brazil and 24 for Spain. For the latter, he has also netted 10 goals.

The Wanderers announced: “Wolves have secured the signing of experienced international striker Diego Costa on a deal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance.”

Diego Costa said: “It’s a first-class club with very good players who know how to play football and having the chance to play in the Premier League again was the main thing.

“Obviously, the club influenced my decision. Especially knowing I will be able to adapt a lot. More easily here not only from a technical point of view, the quality of the players. But also from the fact that a lot of the players are Portuguese. And that will make my transition that much smoother.

“But when he [Bruno Lage] told me about returning to the Premier League since this a championship I have related to quite a bit, always liked it and followed. No matter how much I enjoyed playing in Madrid, I felt discouraged, but this motivated me. It lit that fire within me.”
