Plot twist in Daley Blind’s career. After his departure from Ajax, there was talk of a possible follow-up at Antwerp FC, but it seems to be another foreign club in the red and white: Bayern Munich would be the Amsterdammer’s next destination.
At least that is what De Telegraaf reports on Thursday morning. The newspaper knows that the defender was spotted at Schiphol in the early morning to fly to Germany from there, and reports that Blind will finish the season there, with an option for another year. Blind came on the radar after Bayern defender Lucas Hernández suffered a serious knee injury at the World Cup.
This sudden transfer would have the advantage that the man who played 99 times for Orange can immediately join Bayern’s training camp on Friday. The 32-year-old Blind could make his debut for Bayern on January 20, when the team takes on RB Leipzig in an away game.
Mane’s return
In other Bayern Munich news, the club does not have an ideal start to 2023. The team with the subscription to the German national title saw its large contingent of internationals from Germany return in a minor way from a worthless World Cup, but now also has a bit of good news: the recovery of Sadio Mané would go faster than thought.
The French sports newspaper L’Equipe knows that the Senegalese striker, who missed the World Cup due to a fibula injury, is on his way back. The prestigious Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain would, contrary to what was first suspected, even be feasible. This with the caveat that that match is mid-February and the medical staff of Bayern does not expect his star player to return to group training until the beginning of that month.
It is good news that is welcome at the offices of the Allianz-Arena. In addition to the mentally tough World Cup for the Germans, there was also a physical injury to regret: Manuel Neuer broke his leg while skiing and the goalkeeper has to watch the rest of the season. To fill that gap, Bayern is in the process of signing Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
