AS Roma is convinced that José Mourinho will not be tempted by the Portuguese offer to become national coach.
The Portuguese federation is looking for a new national coach after Fernando Santos left. Louis van Gaal has stated that he is open to a debate over the opening in the nation where he is housed.
How important Van Gaal is to the situation is still up for debate. However, the Portuguese Record saw it as justification for painting the 71-year-old Dutchman with the following epithet: “Louis van Gaal, talented, stubborn, controlling, and unpredictable.”
However, it appears that Jose Mourinho is the target of the Portuguese federation’s arrows. The Special One practised against RKC Waalwijk on Thursday with AS Roma, with whom he is still affiliated. However, whether or not it was concurrent with his job at Roma, he would be interested in the position of national coach for Portugal.
Tammy Abraham confident as well
The Italian club has also received the messages. Jose is a fantastic trainer. After the 3-0 preseason victory over RKC, forward Tammy Abraham commented, “Everyone wants him. The fact that a great nation like Portugal wishes to host him is also honourable. But Roma is undoubtedly in his thoughts. We read the messages as well, but we don’t discuss them. All of our attention is on Roma.”
Tiago Pinto, the director of Roma, is not overly bothered about the rumours. “You take the rumours into the bargain when you hire someone like Mourinho,” he said to La Gazzetta dello Sport. It is not the first time that a club or nation has expressed interest in him in the 18 months that he has been with us.
Pinto anticipates that Mourinho will not leave Rome as a result of this interest. “As a Portuguese person, I am aware that Mourinho is frequently mentioned whenever a new national coach is required. However, we depend on ourselves to stick with him,” the director commented.
The second half of the season for AS Roma begins on Wednesday with a match against Bologna.
