Following the Euro 2020 final, England and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford saw a mural of his suffer vandalism. Now however, to counter the slew of insults, some racist and classist, the original artist restores Marcus Rashford’s vandalized mural.
Rashford, along with Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, missed a penalty in the shootout finale against Italy. He even apologized earnestly to his English fans for letting his home country down (football live today).
In reaction, though, some hurtful fans drew explicit graffiti a mural in Manchester with Rashford’s face painted on it.
The messages of the vandalizers were targeting both Rashford and his English as well as soon-to-be club teammate Jadon Sancho.
However, other football fans have strived to condemn and correct such vile backlash to Rashford’s penalty miss. (Indeed, all three young strikers, who missed their penalty shots, have received racist insults and abuse on social media.)
As for the vandalism, fans have left thousands of messages of support at the scene.
The hateful messages were quickly covered up by messages of support from the Withington community.
So, in a reverse of what those vile fans intended, the positive support has added to the mural’s emotional impact.
Artist Restores Marcus Rashford’s Vandalized Mural
Besides fans’ outpouring of love at Rashford’s mural, in response to the vandalism, its official artist has also fixed it.
The mural’s original artist has fully restored the vandalized wall that featured Marcus Rashford.
Thankfully, original artist of the mural, Akse, has returned to the mural to restore it to its former glory.
“The community coming together has been incredible,” Akse told the Manchester Evening News.
