Mikel Arteta said he wasn’t too upset when Arsenal was beaten 3-1 at Liverpool on Monday night, because it demonstrated the level his side had to achieve.
“In certain ways, the fact is that they are superior to us. In some phases, you may see that,” Arteta told BBC Sport.
About the game itself, he said: “We were in the game for a large part of the game.
“I am really happy with the way the team competed and kept believing. It’s the level we have to reach. We are on a path that is different. They were together for five years; we had a few months.
“Anyway, we have a long way to go.”
“They scored too early, there was a major error by us [after Arsenal’s goal]. I had a feeling in the second half we were going to have opportunities,” he added. “We definitely had the best chance in the game. When you have chances against them, you’ve got to put them on the net.”
