According to The Athletic, Arsenal’s Arteta is likely to part with the defensive players the Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi. The Spaniard is intent on a defensive before next season.
Sokratis, who joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, will see his deal expire in the Emirates next season. Likewise, Mustafi, who has had a rejuvenated position on the side since Mikel Arteta took over, has also had less than 18 months left for his current contract.
Mustafi and Sokratis have 27 Premier League appearances combined for the North London outfit this term. Nevertheless, Arsenal is said to be looking to unload the two centre-backs when the transfer window is reopened.
Moreover, the departure of Sokratis could supposedly aid Arsenal’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, with Gianluca Di Marzio believing that the Gunners are deeply involved in the midfielder. Partey is said to have commanded the number five shirt in the Emirate, which is currently held by Sokratis.
